Don't Forget About the African-American Female

We must not be so focused on the Arican-American male that we forget about the African-American female.  I did not know that there were so many African-American female youth incarcerated until I was introduces to the Juvenile Justice Commission.

I have discovered that when these young girls who have been sexually assaulted, sexually abused, or physically abused, that it may most often lead to a "Tamar Complex." Remember the Biblical story where Tamar was raped by her half brother Amnon, which made her a victim of rape and incest.  This incident ruined her life; she was never the same afterwards.  The Book of Samuel says that as a result of Tamar's sexual abuse at the hands of her brother, she remained desolate for the rest of her life.

Many black females suffer from the "Tamar Complex."  Their lives have been tragically ruined and traumatically wasted by abusive men.  For some, the pain exceeds their ability to cope and they end their own lives.  Others live a socially reclusive life, learning never to trust men.  They often remain single or get involved in a series of failed relationships.  Still others turn to lesbianism to gain the love they now spurn and resent from men.

As a mothering gift in the Church we must give heed to the spiritual warfare that has the ability to seduce our young girs into sin and death.
